Virginia V Steamship, last of the Mosquito Fleet

The Virginia V steamship is a historic ship, the last remaining of the Mosquito Fleet that served the Puget Sound region of Washington state. The Hellenic Archaeological Exploration Society, in collaboration with its industry partners, Ilios Remote Sensing and Norsk Remote Sensing, has committed to laser scanning the entire ship and scanning the hull at every dry dock period; first after the hull being cleaned, and then after repairs and repainting.

By scanning at the start and end of every dry dock period, the data provided can be studied by conservationists that can determine the best method for preserving historic wooden vessels. This is especially important for the Great Lakes region that has far more historic wooden ships than Washington state.
